Literary Translation: Songs for the Unwanted, Gernot Wieland
Songs for the Unwanted is the exhibition catalog for Gernot Wieland's show at MAMC+, running from November 2025 to April 2026, published by JBE Books with The Pill gallery. Wieland is an Austrian artist known for voiceover-driven films that mix drawing, claymation, and philosophical narration, and the book gathers over a decade of that work: stills and scripts, installations, diaristic drawings, alongside an original text by Marie Darrieussecq, a preface by Aurelie Voltz, and an interview with Daniel Kurjakovic.
I translated the book into English (with one original English text translated back into French), carrying the preface, the interview, and Darrieussecq's text across into a second language while keeping the tone intact: memory, repression, the mix of absurdity and trauma that runs through Wieland's films.
